Sea Port Voluntarily Recalls Raw Bay Scallops from the Philippines

On August 18, 2016, Sea Port voluntarily recalled 800 cases (30 pounds each) of raw bay scallops from the Philippines because they were implicated in a Hepatitis A outbreak in Hawaii after being consumed raw. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by this outbreak.

The raw bay scallops were sold in 30 pound boxes not intended for direct retail sale. Sea Port did not sell the raw bay scallops directly to restaurants, so the information that we have about the 30 pound boxes we sold will not assist diners in identifying the raw bay scallops. We are working closely with our customers to ensure that the recalled bay scallops are no longer in the marketplace.

Please ask your restaurant or retailer where their bay scallops came from in order to know if they are part of this recall. Cooking scallops at the proper time and temperature should prevent the transmission of the virus; visit Foodsafety.gov to learn more.

The recalled product was shipped to distributors or processors in Hawaii, California and Nevada.  No other Sea Port products are affected by this recall, and to date health officials have not informed us of any illnesses in California or Nevada.

To learn more about this recall, see photos of the recalled product, and to learn what to do if you believe you have been exposed to Hepatitis A, please visit the FDA website.

As a family-owned and -operated business, we take our responsibility to purchase and distribute safe, wholesome food very seriously. The safety and well-being of consumers is a priority for our company, and we are working with health officials and our supply chain partners to determine how this may have happened.

Sincerely,
